Andy Coulson gets 18-month jail for phone hacking
I. Former News of the World editor Andy Coulson, a onetime aide to British Prime Minister David Cameron, has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for participating in a conspiracy to hack the phones of celebrities, politicians and crime victims.
II. Three other former journalists and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire all received shorter sentences on Friday.
III. Coulson was convicted on June 24, 2014 after an eight-month trial stemming from revelations of illegal eavesdropping at the now-defunct Rupert Murdoch-owned tabloid.
IV. Another former editor, Rebekah Brooks, and four others were acquitted.
V. Coulson faces a retrial on two charges of bribing police officers for royal phone directories.
VI. The defendants have said they did not know phone hacking was illegal, though the judge said they knew it was “morally wrong”.

RBI restored the limit of Overseas Direct Investment taken under automatic route
I. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) restored the limit of Overseas Direct Investment (ODI) by an Indian company under the automatic route of Foreign Exchange Management Act, 2004.
II. With this decision now an Indian company can undertake financial commitment or invest up to 400 percent of the net worth in all its Joint Ventures (JVs) and/or Wholly Owned Subsidiaries (WOSs) abroad.
III. However, RBI decided that any financial commitment exceeding one billion US Dollars or its equivalent in a financial year will require prior approval of the Reserve Bank. This rule is applicable even if total commitment undertaken by an Indian company falls within the eligible limit.
IV. Earlier in August 2013, RBI reduced the ODI limit to 100 percent of net worth of company from 400 percent for all Indian companies by considering the prevailed macro economic situation. The decision was taken in order to control the unprecedented appreciation of the dollar when the rupee touched an all-time low of 68.80 rupees.

Ram Naresh Yadav sworn-in as Governor of Chhattisgarh
I. Ram Naresh Yadav was sworn-in as Governor of Chhattisgarh at Raj Bhawan, Raipur on 2 July 2014. Ram Naresh Yadav, Governor of Madhya Pradesh, has been given the additional charge of Chhattisgarh.
II. He was administered oath of secrecy by the Chief Jusitce Yatindra Singh of Bilaspur High Court, Chhattisgarh.
III. Ram replaced Shekhar Dutt, who resigned as the Governor of Chhattisgarh on 18 June 2014.

Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister to visit Delhi for talks with Sushma Swaraj
I. Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris will be visiting India next week to hold talks with Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on key issues, including the welfare of Tamil community in Sri Lanka and the resolution of the fishermen issues.
II. Prof. Peiris is likely to arrive in New Delhi on 9th July and hold official talks on 10th.

Federer, Djoko play their semis matches at Wimbledon today
I. In the Wimbledon Tennis championship, the Men's Singles semifinals will be played today.
II. Seven times champion, Swiss Roger Federer will face Canadian Milos Raonic while the other semifinal will be played between top seeded Novak Djokovic and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
III. Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic will face Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard in the final of the Women's Singles tomorrow.
IV. In the first semifinal yesterday, 2011 Wimbledon winner and sixth-seeded Kvitova defeated compatriot Lucie Safarova, 7-6, 6-1.
V. In the second semifinal last night, 13th-seeded Bouchard beat Romania’s Simona Halep 7-6, 6-2 to become the first Canadian to advance to the women’s singles final at Wimbledon.

Olympian, WW II veteran Zamperini passes away
I. Louis Zamperini, an Olympic runner and American World War II veteran who survived two years as a prisoner of war, has died at the age of 97.
II. He died peacefully on Wednesday after a 40-day battle with pneumonia. Zamperini's life was the subject of the 2010 book Unbroken and an upcoming film adaption to be released this year.
