World Bank to give $153 mn loan for Odisha project

I.India has inked a loan agreement with World Bank for an assistance of $153 million (about Rs 920 crore) for the Odisha Disaster Recovery Project.

II.“The Loan Agreements for World Bank (International Development Association (IDA) assistance of $153 million for Odisha Disaster Recovery Project were signed here on Friday between the Government of India and the World Bank,” an official statement said.

III.The objective of the project is to restore and improve housing and public services in targeted communities of Odisha, and increase the capacity of the state entities to respond promptly and effectively to an eligible crisis of emergency, the statement said.

IV.Direct beneficiaries of the project include population of the coastal areas in Ganjam, Puri and Khordha affected by the cyclone that will be part of the housing reconstruction programme, it added.

V.In addition, the total population of Berhampur, around 350,000, will benefit either directly or indirectly from the improvements expected to result from the master plans.

Amul to sponsor Indian contingent for Commonwealth, Asian Games

I.Amul has inked an agreement with the Indian Olympic Association to sponsor the Indian contingent for the upcoming Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games to be held later this year in South Korea.

II.R S Sodhi, Managing Director, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul), said that the company is leveraging on the synergies of milk and sports through this partnership.

III.“Amul is committed to strengthening the support to sports in various forms and encourage young generation from all corners of the country to take up sports,” he said.

IV.Amul, which has recently started its 'Eat Milk with Every Meal' campaign, had also sponsored the Indian contingent for the London Olympics in 2012 and has been investing in football, cricket and Formula 1 in the past.

Special Mumbai-Nagpur trains for RRB exams

I.The Railways has decided to run a pair of special trains between Mumbai CST and Nagpur and back to facilitate candidates appearing for the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination on July 13.

II.Accordingly, the train No 01097 will depart from CST at 4.40 pm on July 13 (Sunday) and reach Nagpur the next day at 8 am.

III.Similarly, the train No 01098 will leave Nagpur at 11 am on July 14 and arrive at Mumbai the same day at 11.50 pm, a release from Nagpur division of Central Railway said today.

IV.They will halt at Kalyan, Igatpuri, Nashik road, Manmad, Bhusawal, Akola, Badnera, Dhamangaon and Wardha in both directions.

V.The trains will consist of one 1AC-cum-2AC, one 2AC, two 3AC, 12 Sleeper and five unreserved coaches, the release added.

I.Union Ministry of Railways launched Social Media Platform for the Indian Railways on 7 July 2014.

II.With this, customers can connect with the Railways through Facebook and Twitter. Besides, all the important announcements of Railways starting with Rail Budget 2014-15 will be available to the customers on 24×7 basis.

III.The launch of Social Media Platform is the endeavour of Indian railways to use social media as a platform to tell its stories and constantly hear from fellow travelers.

IV.The new initiative of railways joining social media will add to the technology development of India and transparent.

Grand old lady of Indian cinema Zohra Sehgal dies at 102

I.Zohra Sehgal, a quintessential Bollywood diva who essayed character roles with aplomb in a career spanning over seven decades in both theatre and cinema, died here today at the age of 102.

II.A Padma Vibhushan awardee, Sehgal breathed her last at Max hospital here around 4:30 pm.

III.“She was admitted yesterday and diagnosed with pneumonia.

IV.A heart patient, she suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away,” a senior doctor at the hospital said.

Senior journalist Jehangir Pocha passes away

I.Senior journalist Jehangir Pocha passed away this morning in Gurgaon following a cardiac arrest.

II.Pocha was Editor-in-Chief when ‘News X’ channel was launched and was currently a senior editorial member of the ITV Group, which controls the channel.

III.News X journalists said Pocha complained of chest pain at his Gurgaon residence and was rushed to a local hospital where he breathed his last at 4.30 am.

IV.He was earlier editor of ‘Business World’ and the China correspondent for the ‘Boston Globe’.

Malaysia Airlines makes self-service check-in mandatory

I.In a move to make travelling quick and easy, Malaysia Airlines has said that its economy class passengers flying out of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport will now be required to use self-service check-in facilities.

II.“Passengers have three options, they can check-in through web or mobile at home, or they can come to the airport and check-in through the kiosk,” Malaysia Airlines (MAS) airport services senior manager Mohd Mazlan Md Noor said.

III.The national carrier said in a statement that the move was intended to save time, but it is also likely to be a means of reducing the airline’s operating costs.

IV.“We would like to encourage our customers to use the web or mobile check-in because we want them to have a seamless travel, so they only need to come to the airport and drop their bag, or if they don’t have any check-in bags they can proceed to the gate straightaway,” Noor said.

V.He estimated the whole process of checking-in via the kiosk, dropping off your bag, and heading to the departure gate to be about five minutes.

New head for e-seva in Telangana

I.The Telangana Government has appointed B Sreedhar, IAS, as the Director of e-Seva, the government-to-citizen services.

II.J Shyamala Rao, IAS, as State Project Director of Rajiv Vidya Mission and Chief Executive Officer of the State Literacy Mission.

III.Rahul Bojja, IAS, is posted as Director of Tribal Welfare, a government order said on Saturday.

Mamata to visit Singapore to seek investments

I.West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been invited to visit Singapore by its Foreign Affairs minister.

II.According to State Finance, Commerce and Industries Minister, Amit Mitra, the proposal is under the Chief Minister’s consideration.

III.She will be accompanied by a business delegation that will include various departmental secretaries including city-based businessmen, he said.

World Cup champions to get $35 mn from FIFA

I.The World Cup title not only carries immense prestige, but a massive paycheck as well on Sunday.

II.The winning federation, either Germany or Argentina, will receive $35 million from the ruling body FIFA, and the losers $25 million, FIFA said on Friday.

III.There is also a financial incentive in the match for third place between hosts Brazil and the Netherlands on Saturday, with $22 million for third place and $20 million for the fourth.

IV.Overall FIFA is dishing out $358 million to the 32 teams who competed at the June 12-July 13.
