Sholay 3D is released

Sholay 3D, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar and Hema Malini in their unforgettable roles has been released in a stereoscopic 3D version.

While Sholay 3D collected Rs 1.50 crore on the opening day (Friday), it did box office business of Rs 4.80 crore over the weekend (Rs 2.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 2.55 crore on Sunday), according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

While some of the original cast and crew had no objection with Sholay 3D, director Ramesh Sippy had made his anti-release stand very clear. The Bombay High Court, however, rejected his plea seeking a stay on the release of Sholay's 3D version made by his nephew Sasha over a copyright dispute.

The film's writers Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan, however, promoted the film in full swing.

Director Ketan Mehta, who was involved in the 3D conversion of Sholay, said revisiting the classic with the new technology was challenging. Producer GP Sippy's grandsons had approached Mehta for the 3D conversion of the Amitabh Bachchan-Dharmendra starrer through his Maya Digital Studios.

Computer-generated graphics have been introduced in certain sequences of Sholay 3D to give the impression of “popping out of the screen”: such as the collision between the train and a pile of logs; Thakur’s bullet racing towards the handcuffs worn by Jai and Veeru; the bomb blast sequence with Amitabh Bachchan makes believe as if debris will blow itself out of the screen and envelop the viewer.

Mere Sapno Ka Bharat to be BJP's new social mantra

Mere Sapno Ka Bharat will be new social mantra for BJP to get ground-level feedback and gauge people’s pulse and aspirations.

A core group in the party is giving final touches to this campaign to be launched shortly, Smriti Z. Irani, BJP Vice President, said.

“We are currently in the process of tweaking the project and expect to launch it shortly. The idea is to allow people to express themselves about what they want, the issues they expect to be addressed and how they feel about any issue,” she said.

Speaking on the sidelines of an interactive meeting hosted by the FICCI’s Ladies Organisation here, she said, “A core team will monitor the inputs provided from across the country and see how these could be addressed. The thinking behind such an initiative is also to get a grassroots level assessment of people’s concerns.”

With mobile phones and Internet access across all over the country, people can simply upload voice bytes or video clips, she said.

The project will be launched by BJP’s presidential candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Delhi CM Kejriwal refuses new govt flats
Facing criticism, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced his decision not to take up the two five-bedroom duplex flats he has been alloted.

He told the media that he has asked the government to look for smaller accommodation for him.

"Since yesterday my friends, supporters have been calling me and sending messages saying I should not move into the five-bedroom flat. So, I have decided to forego them. I am asking the government to look for smaller accommodation for me," he said at a party strategy meeting.

Asked about the attack on him for choosing a big apartment, Kejriwal said, "It is actually important. We have come to cleanse dirty politics. Like Caesar's wife we have to be above suspicion and we have to subject ourselves to scrutiny".

Delhi government ministers are entitled to Type-Six or Type-Seven bungalows with three-bedrooms. Sheila Dikshit has since 2003 been staying at a Type-8 bungalow on 3, Motilal Nehru Marg in Lutyens Delhi.

World Braille Day Today
Louis Braille, who was born in France in January 1809, is credited for inventing the Braille script. The script helps the visually impaired people to read as well as write. Braille became blind after an accident at the age of three. He created a language based on the patterns of raised dots on paper, which could be felt and one can read anything that is unable to see. He did this to have an access to works of literature. On this day NGOs, as well as other organizations come together to raise awareness about the apathy towards visually impaired people and to help them be equal with the rest of the people. The day also helps people to feel the importance to produce works in the Braille language to allow blinds to read the works.Braille is a code language, which uses bumps and identification on a surface that represents alphabets and as a whole letters, which can be recognized by the touch. This is a complicated language, which allows a blind person to read. The code being a language allows someone to prepare subjects like music, mathematics and computer programming that can be read.
